On Photography

I have been taking photographs for over thirty years. I never grow tired of it. Taking my eyes out for a walk and then putting the camera up to my face and becoming only one eye looking carefully at whatever has caught my attention. This is a pleasure I would not easily give up.

I have spent some time looking into the history of photography, works by 20th century photographers, and the techniques of the photographic art and craft. Hell, I even like walking through junk, sorry, low end antique stores, and looking for any old cameras. They always seem like old friends, who are just taking a breather and talking quietly among themselves in the glass case. And only in a little while will they be brought out into the sun and there they can begin to play at capturing light and shadow.

Be nice to your camera, take it for a walk today.

Some of my old friends: Pentax Spotmatic 1000, Yashica Electro G35, Yashica TLR D, Yashica FR, Pentax PZ-1, Nikon FM, Nikon FG, Canon Elph, Kodak Pocket Instamatic 150, Kodak Starflash Brownie.

I will be putting together some albums in the coming months: one I am looking forward to working through will contain photos of the Syncrude Project on the Athabasca Tar Sands, where I worked construction in the summers of 1973 and 1974.

Thank you Mr. Fox Talbot and Mr. Eastman.
