Working on the Water

photographs by William J. Gibson

On Georgian Bay in shallow water
a barge arrived one fine day last fall.

The people who owned the cottage/home a couple of doors to the left
were tempting fate and jacking up their one story mansion
and putting in a new ground story level.

The barge scientists arrived and to the best of my speculation
were there to battle some rocks
and maybe cut a deeper channel for small boat access.

Believe me there are a lot of rocks out there.
I've seen them when I have drifted around with a face mask and snorkel.

The barge scientists did not linger and from what I could see
did little damage to the environment.

It isn't every day you see a back hoe swimming in Georgian Bay.
