You simply must not miss this event. 100 miles north of Toronto, come on up.
The BATTLE OF GEORGIAN BAY represents a fictional War of 1812 / Revolutionary War Naval and Military battle. This entertaining and educational event is hosted by the historic towns of Midland, Penetanguishene, and Tiny Township as well as, by Discovery Harbour, Canada's leading marine heritage site on the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay.
Over 1700 naval and military re-enactors, cavalry, tall ships, and smaller vessels will be in the Midland/Penetanguishene area to stage a number of battles and skirmishes. They will also open their living history encampment at Discovery Harbour (in Penetanguishene on Jury Drive) to the public.
In 1998 I attended the Battle of Georgian Bay on the Saturday when the action was at Discovery Harbour in Penetang. I had simply a wonderful time taking photographs of the re-enactors who came out that day. This is an absolutely must-see photographic opportunity for anyone interested in our history. Of course if you don't like lots of colourful uniforms, horses, ships, longboats, yelling, noise and gunsmoke, musket fire, artillery fire, and camp fires, you may not want to turn up. That will be ok with me, I won't have to hold my camera over your head.
