Issue 23 - in early September, 2003

sun threw the window
and wall away for an indoor
beach with red wine

what ever could be done in fiction and fact
lasts and lasts

the popcorn fidget of my doubts
eased up and over the moon

laughing at the dogs
shaking water out of their fur
while they are standing knee deep in the bay

it doesn't work that way I tell them

* * * * *

press your wrist against
my head
twist the sounds

from your mouth
aching
arching like the skin

is a slow burn
rolling into ice

and back again
a hundred times a second

how does it prove that
the world exists

***
hidden and known
tested by a tongue
fallen from ear

resting on hip
turning over and over
in a tumbling dream

knowing knowing knowing

***
you moan when I press
down harder between your legs
the room blacker now

***
when I think of you
a thousand things dance in my head

from happy to sad to hungry
to the distance of time and places

it is not enough
a sudden burst

not like a salvo from
a battery of guns

at four in the morning in the snow

black white red
