Expo 67 More
photos The Soviets had a large pavillion at Expo 67. They were very proud of their technology and transportation, in particular their space program. The US Moon Landing was two years away. The Race to the Moon was still very much in doubt in 1967. Lyndon Baines Johnson was President of the United States, having won election in 1964, after assuming the Presidency in 1963 following the assassination of Presiden John F. Kennedy. The Cold War propaganda battle was in full swing and Expo-like events were major opportunities for bragging about the accomplishments and strengths of the competing political philosophies. Propaganda was a major component of the Space Race. 1968 - Richard M. Nixon would win the Presidential election in November 1968. The Democrats ran Hubert Humphrey for President, who won the nomination at the Chicago Convention. The Chicago Police "rioted" in their handling of demonstrators at the convention. TV coverage of that convention was disturbing to the whole American nation. Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Doctor Martin Luther King jr. were assasinated that year. - William J. Gibson - Images

USSR Pavillion The b+w print of this image was not in the best condition. I ended up cropping and both dodging and burning the scanned image. There was a dark band down the right side of the photo that was pretty distracting. My sister is in the left foreground wondering what I am up to. |

Hydro-electric Plant model Huge diorama model of hyrdoelectric plant. I don't remember any nuclear models but they may have been there. I do remember hydrofoils. They were very large and very impressive models. The model was perhaps 20 feet across.
