Old Cameras Two Medium Format Cameras from the old days (1950s vintage): (L) Agfa Record III folding 6x9cm uncoupled rangefinder camera (R) Rolleicord TLR 6x6cm camera
Agfa Record III - everything is manual on this camera: focus distance, aperture, shutter speed, and the shutter is cocked manually. The advantage of a folding camera is that it folds up into a very compact size for carrying in one's pocket.
Rolleicord An excellent camera for portraits. 6x6cm negative on 120 film. The Twin Lens Reflex box design with waist level finder was THE camera of choice until the Single Lens Reflex camera took over in the 1960s.
Once again the camera is set manually: aperture, shutter speed, focus, and the cocking of the shutter.
For the next issue I will scan some images from these cameras. However the real strength of these images is evidentg when they are enlarged to make large prints. Think about it. A 35mm negative is 35mm x 24mm. The Agfa Record III negative is 90mm x 60mm. The Rolleicord negative is 60mm x 60mm. - William J. Gibson - Images and text copyright
